Selling The Sixties

The Pirates and Pop Music Radio

Selling the Sixties arose from the work that I undertook for my Master’s Degree at the University of Leicester in the late 1980s. It was my first published book and is still in print 30 years after it was first published. “I think we’re onto a winner here” said my M.Phil tutor Graham Murdock very early on in proceedings. It’s amazing how much zest that can give a writer when a renowned academic tutor tells them that.

Selling The Sixties is an in-depth look at the golden age of UK offshore pirate radio. It also contains much valuable material about the early days of Radio One. A significant part of the research was drawn from my considerable archive of offshore radio recordings, some of which I have recently started putting on Mixcloud.
